Efforts to preserve the old Lankershim rail depot (commented on a few entries below) were the subject of a story in the Feb. 17 L.A. Times. The station used by Southern Pacific trains and Pacific Electric “Red Cars” is called a crucial spot in Valley history by Guy Weddington McCreary, whose family helped settle the town that became North Hollywood, and Ken Bernstein of the Los Angeles Conservancy. Representatives of the MTA, which owns the site, say the agency is committed to preserving the depot. For a week or so the story will be available here. Also see: Save the Depot committee.
