"Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there's only one Valley..."
Hush Money, by Peter Israel
Van Nuys historic district
Efforts to give official historic status to the original residential blocks of Van Nuys are the subject of a feature story by Dana Bartholomew in The Daily News. Some homeowners are asking City Hall to create the Valley's first Historic Preservation Overlay Zone. It would give residents some control over renovations and demolition of the bungalows built soon after Van Nuys was founded as an unincorporated town in 1911. The town, along with most of the Valley, joined Los Angeles via an annexation vote in 1915.
