"Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there's only one Valley..."
Hush Money, by Peter Israel

Uncle Jack
Hi there,

Jack “The Enforcer” Whalen was my great uncle, his brother-in-law was my grandfather George Wunderlich. Could you please send me any information you have on him, as I am trying to put together a family album. Thank you.

Interesting connection. Sorry, all I know is what's in the book, which is summarized here. Jack Whalen was considered the top bookie in the Valley at the time he was shot and killed (probably by mobster Mickey Cohen, but possibly by one of his henchmen) inside Rondelli's on Ventura Boulevard in 1959. I'd bet you could find more about him in the newspapers of the era.
