Birmingham High School's origins as a World War II Army hospital, and later a hospital for paraplegic veterans, feeds a lot of legends about hidden tunnels and underground facilities. I've yet to discover what the truth is, but I was reminded of the tales by a recent email:

Rumor has it that there is a huge 800 bed underground hospital beneath Birmingham High school that was built in the 1940s. I am told it is still there and ready for use. Do you know if this is true?
