"Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there's only one Valley..."
Hush Money, by Peter Israel
Minnesota poet Randy Stern named his first published collection The Boy from Reseda, after his hometown. He plans to visit in April for the first time in ten years and blogs about his plans (other than seeing family and friends):
As a regular patron of public transportation, now 31 years after my first ride on the RTD’s Victory Boulevard bus, I hope to check out Metro’s newest transportation project. To replace the old Southern Pacific freight rail line, the current transit system opened up a Bus Rapid Transit line that runs through Reseda from Warner Center connecting with the Red Line subway in North Hollywood. The Orange Line looks fantastic. Riding it should be an experience worth 31 years of GRID lines and the advocacy of Mr. Sulu. There is so much to se and do that perhaps this will be a working vacation after all. There will also be so much ground to cover in the process. This bridge to all generations of my birthplace is a journey I must take. As I grow older, the appreciation of all things Los Angeles and Southern California has crept into my psyche. When the trip is complete, I hope to bring a lot more home than just simple trinkets, digital photography and prose. At least that is what my goal is.
Does this make the Orange Line an official tourist attraction?
