This small item ran in the Los Angeles Times on Feb. 6, 1885 and told of a supposed gold strike in the hills of what might be today's Pacoima. Sen. Charles Maclay was the founder of the town of San Fernando. He later developed land around much of the northeast corner of the Valley.
