"Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there's only one Valley..."

Camp Fun Time
Growing up in the Valley (in Granada Hills to be exact) in the '60s, Mom used to send my younger brother and I to a summer camp called Camp Fun Time. Its exact location is a bit hazy in my mind but I believe it may have been off of Nordhoff Blvd. in Northridge somewhere near where the Northridge Fashion Mall is today because I remember going past CSUN to get there. The camp was run by the Mann family; if memory serves, the man who oversaw the entire camp operation was Leonard "Lenny" Mann. The place lived up to it's name --- it was big fun! I wonder if anyone else in the mid-60's who went there recalls it, and if there are any existing photos. Talk about nostalgia! Yooo-hooo!

Thanks for your PHENOMENAL website. I check in regularly to see the updates. In a few months I will be getting married and moving to Nashville, after a lifetime of being a proud "Valley Dweller," and will be ordering your book so when I feel homesick, I can peruse the pages and feel like I am back at "home" once more.Keep up the great work!

Most sincerely,

Ellen Thompson

Finally, one I can help on! First of all, congratulations on your marriage, and thanks for the appreciative comments. I wish my updates were more frequent, but I'm working on that. OK, yes I believe the camp was on Nordhoff, on the south side between Reseda Boulevard and Tampa. I never went there, but Mr. Mann was a longtime gym teacher and coach at Monroe High School. On the topic, in the very early 1960s I was forced to attend a few weekends of Christian Commandos on Devonshire Street (I think it was east of Zelzah, west of Louise.) It wasn't fun. If anyone else did time there, I've love to hear about it.
