"Los Angeles is surrounded by valleys, but there's only one Valley..."
Hush Money, by Peter Israel
Beverly-San Fernando
On the list of big plans for the Valley that thankfully never got built are things like Los Angeles International Airport (discussed for west from Balboa Blvd. and Saticoy Street), the Whitnall Freeway across the center of the Valley and a professional sports stadium in Sepulveda Basin. The Beverly-San Fernando Hotel makes my personal list. It would have sat at the top of Coldwater Canyon at Mulholland Drive. This L.A. Times clipping is from Nov. 24, 1954; note the plans for an air-conditioned Cold War bomb shelter.
